Add Content...Don't shoot the messenger but your 1080p display is already playing second fiddle to a new superior technology and we're not talking about a moderate improvement we're talking revolutionary. This new standard makes HDTV look like your trusty old console TV of antiquity. This phenomenon is known as 4K, a rather unassuming and modest moniker wouldn't you say.  What is 4K? Well for starters it boasts a display resolution of 4,096 x 2,160 or for all those pixel counters out there try 8.8 million. Don't believe me, go ahead and count them! That's equivalent to four times the resolution of the highest resolution display currently available which is 1,920 x 1,080.

For those veterans of the Blu-Ray vs. HDDVD war in which Blu-Ray prevailed you'll be thrilled to know that not only will 4K render the players useless but there isn't currently an optical medium in existence with the capacity to store a 4K movie. While Blu-Ray nestles comfortably on a 50GB disk 4K would require a theoretical 300GB disk.

If anyone is doubting the validity of this new technology and thinks it can be dismissed as something that won't become a reality for many years your in for a shock. The movie studios have already agreed on 4K as the new standard and many commercial studios are already being outfitted with digital projectors capable of 4K resolution. This however is a dream come true for videophiles because 4K will be the first digital technology to match the silky smooth and exquisite resolution of film. Kind of ironic isn't it, we've come all this way just to achieve the same quality image we've had for decades!
